Offering the best end of life possible

Hospice Halifax

This compassionate community of staff members, volunteers, and donors is “dedicated to making dying and living as comfortable and as meaningful as possible at the end of life” for patients from Nova Scotia and their families.

As long-time supporters of Hospice Halifax, we are very pleased to see the dream of a standalone hospice come to reality.

A Health Care Worker Comforting a Patient at Hospice Halifax

Getting to this point took years of planning and fundraising by a group of dedicated volunteers who saw the need for a place for those with a terminal illness to live out their final days in a warm and caring environment. We are pleased to have committed $50,000 to their capital campaign and are the proud presenting sponsor of Hike for Hospice, that takes place annually in June.

The hospice provides an alternative to dying at home where family members often take on the bulk of the burden of providing personal and medical care, instead of being able to just spend time with their dying loved one. And like a hospital, it offers round-the-clock medical attention, but does so in a home-like environment where there are supports for both the patient and their family.

The hospice is free of charge to patients, with funding for the facility and the medical care provided by Hospice Halifax and the Nova Scotia Health Authority. Providing a space for patients to live their final days outside of hospital is not only more comfortable, it’s also more cost-effective – $475/day compared to $800 – $1200/day in a hospital.

We are honoured to continue our support of Hospice Halifax, and congratulate them on their heroic efforts to bring this much-needed facility to Halifax. Visit their website at hospicehalifax.ca to learn more.
